With amazingly hospitable people, beautiful National Parks and the source of the River Nile, this country is a haven for anyone looking to experience something other than a conventional safari.

Uganda is an extremely diverse, landlocked country in eastern Africa best known for its mountain gorilla populations in the Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga National Parks.

From the tranquil shores of Lake Victoria to tree climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and from the dramatic mountains of the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to the arid and rugged savannas of Kidepo National Park, Uganda also has a large range of other amazing places to visit and is quickly becoming a hot destination for adventure tourism.

## Country profile

Home to around 420 Mountain gorillas, roughly half of the world’s remaining population, Uganda is a superb destination to visit to see these majestic animals in their natural habitat. Given the prices involved with acquiring a permit, lodges that specialise in gorilla trekking are traditionally towards the top end of the scale. The only two places to see gorilla are in the south west of the country, near the border with DRC and Rwanda - the only other countries in the world to have populations.

The volcanic lakes around Fort Portal in Uganda’s west, home to the African Shoebill and large number of other primates are great place for hiking and birding. Further north, Murchison Falls and Kidepo National Park both offer a more conventional savanna safari experience with good game viewing and some fantastic big fishing.

The less visited Queen Elizabeth National Park in southwest Uganda is home to a diverse spectrum of wildlife. With leopard, hippo, chimpanzee, tree-climbing lions and over 600 species of bird all living around huge volcanic crater lakes, this national park is a wonderful place to visit.

Above all, Uganda is home to incredibly hospitable and friendly people. Combine this with its stunning scenery and you are sure to leave Uganda with lasting memories.

## Time your visit with Uganda's seasons

Uganda's climate is fairly consistent all year round with warm days, cool evenings in the mountains and seasonal rainfall. Whenever and wherever you visit, you can expect to receive a fair amount of sunshine.

For a general rule though, Uganda does follow the same typical weather patterns of East Africa with the two 'dry seasons' Dec-Feb and Jun-Oct and the two 'green seasons' Mar-May and November.
