Luxury lodge set into a cliff face overlooking the Phinda Private Game Reserve in South Africa

## Profile

Dramatically set into a cliff-face overlooking spectacular Leopard Rock, the unique Rock Lodge at Phinda Private Game Reserve is an architectural fascination.

Its six suites are seemingly suspended over the deep valley below, providing breath-taking views. Each romantic suite, constructed from contoured stone and adobe, boasts solid wooden shutters and doors, opening onto a private plunge pool and viewing deck.

Complete with spacious en-suite bathrooms, three of the suites also feature outdoor showers, providing some of the most scenic al-fresco bathing on the African continent.

## Profile

The lodge’s comfortable sitting areas are the perfect vantage point for viewing the abundant wildlife roaming the bushveld below.

This is an intimate lodge, where guests are treated like treasured family members and time is shared with fellow safari adventurers who soon become friends.

Striking sunsets are witnessed from the game viewing deck suspended over Africa’s bushveld, and delicious Pan African meals are served in the dining area under hand-wrought chandeliers.

## Activities list

Game drives set off early in the morning or late in the afternoon (continuing after nightfall), in the company of expert safari guides and local trackers who will do their best to ensure that all your wishes are met. Its a Big Five Reserve so you can expect to see a vast array of wildlife

Enjoy a magical setting in the middle of the bush – comfortable beds with full duvets and warm blankets, twinkling lanterns hanging from the trees. Be welcomed with sundowner drinks while your guide prepares a delicious meal on the fire. Fall asleep under the starry sky to the sound of hyena calling in the distance, secure in the knowledge that an armed guard will patrol the site by night.

As part of a game drive, or a few hours over the middle of the day, a nature walk is an opportunity to connect with the African bush and experience it on the same level as its animal inhabitants. Watch birds, explore a dry river bed, walk in the footsteps of zebra or giraffe, sit in stillness in the shade of an ancient tree, unravel the stories behind animal tracks, or simply stretch the legs.

Participate in a privately guided pangolin research and monitoring experience, and you’ll be supporting the conservation of the world’s most trafficked mammal. Join a researcher to locate one of the pangolins, conduct a general health check, and download critical research data from the UHF tag attached to each pangolin. (Extra charge applies)

Visit an authentic Zulu homestead, a traditional healer, and shop for exquisite handicrafts in the local community. Get a glimpse into the rituals of daily life and see how tribal culture and tradition affect rural Zulu villagers in the modern world.

Phinda supports Africa Foundation, aimed at improving education, healthcare and access to water, as well as the development of local businesses in the area.
