## Profile

Sand Rivers is situated in the northern part of the Nyerere National Park, which is the second largest protected wilderness area in the world. Sand Rivers offers stylish, luxurious safari accommodation on the banks of the Rufiji River. This comfortable and stylish lodge features an outdoor pool, an open-air dining room, bar and lounge which have been beautifully constructed on a sweeping curve of the great Rufiji River, offering stunning views across the water. Sand Rivers has just eight stone and thatch cottages, all of which are open-fronted and raised on decks overlooking the river.

## Profile

There are five riverside rooms - with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, flush toilets and powerful showers - and three hillside suites. The suites all have the same amenities as the riverside rooms, but with the added extra of a large living space and a small plunge pool.

Activities at Sand Rivers are tailored to suit each guest, whether it's game drives, walking safaris, fishing or boating. Fly camping under mosquito nets on a dry river bed can also be arranged although are seasonally dependent.

## Activities list

Venture into the bush on foot, always at close proximity to your guide, following riverbanks and crossing flood plains. Emerging into a clearing to see what awaits.

Jump aboard a motorboat and chug your way upstream through the hippo pods, then use the current to drift you silently back down. Along the way you may pass wallowing elephant and flocks of great while pelicans.

Ankle-deep in the shallows of the river, cast your line across the waters in the hope of catching a tiger-fish.

Cover a larger terrain in an open safari vehicle in search of the variety of wildlife that calls Nyerere home.

For the more adventurous, it can be arranged to head down to a dry riverbed and spend a night sleeping on the sand with nothing but a mosquito net between you and the African stars.
