Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is a luxury eco-paradise showcasing the fascinating and unique Flora and Marine life of the southernmost tip of Africa.
The stunning reserve is situated in the smallest and most botanically diverse of the 6 floral kingdoms, the Cape Floral Kingdom.
This incredible ecosystem has an extraordinarily high diversity of plant species, of which 69% are endemic. The kingdom is typified by fynbos, a prolific shrub-land that is heavily dependant on symbiotic relationships with many of its animal inhabitants. It’s the stories of these relationships, the unique way that the fynbos reproduces and the infectious enthusiasm of everybody connected to the reserve that makes this place so memorable.
Through Grootbos’ two five-star lodges, Garden and Forest, and its sustainable projects with local communities, this private nature reserve is committed to the conservation to this most remarkable floral region.
True to its name, the warm and welcoming Garden Lodge is set amongst an Eden of beautifully landscaped fynbos gardens and indigenous trees. Fashioned from stone, thatch and timber, the Garden Lodge reflects African warmth with an intercontinental twist, blending perfectly into the surrounding landscape.
Nestled carefully into the natural gaps of an enchanted Milkwood forest, the 11 freestanding suites are stylishly furnished with luxurious canopy beds, spacious en suite bathrooms, separate lounges with cosy fireplaces and private wooden decks with spectacular panoramic views.
The curved lines, high beamed ceilings and endless windows enhance the sensation of light, freedom and natural flow and make full use of the incredible sweeping views across mountain and sea. An elegant restaurant, spacious lounge, beauty salon, library and children’s entertainment room ensure that all needs are satisfied. The wooden deck, terrace and superb pool area extend the interior space into the outdoors allowing sun seekers and nature lovers to make the most of the rejuvenating environment.
The Forest Lodge is a masterpiece of sophisticated and contemporary design, reflecting the breathtaking natural beauty of the surrounding landscape. The clean lines, high ceilings and large windows frame and accentuate the incredible sweeping views across the rolling hills of fynbos and the whale sanctuary of Walker Bay beyond. On a clear day, it’s possible to see all the way to Cape Point! Orientated towards the setting sun, every evening offers another grand spectacle of light and colour.
The 16 freestanding luxury suites are accessed via an enchanted cobbled pathway beneath the ancient forest canopy. Each of the freestanding suites are stylishly furnished with luxurious canopy beds, spacious en suite bathrooms, separate lounges with cosy fireplaces and private wooden decks with spectacular panoramic views.
The main lodge features a variety of elegant dining venues, a bar, lounge, curio shop and conference centre. Spacious wooden decks and an infinity pool beckon you to relax, unwind and enjoy the soothing tranquility. As the evening descends, cosy fireplaces and subtle lighting create a warm, romantic atmosphere for the perfect dining experience.
Grootbos is about more than just luxury accommodation and eco adventures. Your visit directly contributes to the conservation efforts of the Grootbos Foundation as well as the development of sustainable nature-based livelihoods amongst local communities. It is this core philosophy of conservation linked with social development that has made Grootbos an award-winning world leader in responsible tourism.
