If you’re lucky enough to be able to fit Cape Town into your holiday, try as hard as possible to make it over a weekend.

The city is home to some truly outstanding weekend markets.

These are our 5 favourites:

Oranjezicht City Farm Market

Granger Bay

Probably our favourite market in the world. Fresh, fresh produce, amazing food stalls, great local clothes as well as anything you can imagine. This is a great place to be on a Saturday or Sunday morning!

If you’re staying in self-catered accommodation this is where we’d recommend buying your food. We do not accept any responsibility if you walk out having adopted a puppy!

When?

  • Saturday 9am - 2pm
  • Sunday 9am - 3pm

Oranjezicht City Farm Market

The Neighbourgoods Market

Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock

Woodstock is the up-and-coming ‘trendy’ part of town. In Woodstock itself, there are lots of amazing furniture shops as well as cool bars. The Old Biscuit Mill is in the heart of Woodstock and is buzzing with energy, particularly on a Saturday.

There are some incredible restaurants in the Old Mill (Test Kitchen, Pot Luck Club etc) as well as some great shops open Monday - Saturday. On Saturday is the market, live music, food stalls and some great local produce.

When?

  • Saturday 9am - 2pm (live music)

Neighbourgoods Market

Hout Bay Market

Hout Bay

If you’re looking for something fun to do on a Friday evening, this is the place to be. Grab a glass of MCC (bubbles) and enjoy the music as you look around all the fun stalls! The market offers a few good food stalls, with the best being the Vagabond Kitchens.

When?

  • Friday 5pm - 9pm (live music)
  • Saturday 9.30am - 4pm
  • Sunday 9.30am - 4pm

Hout Bay Market

Cape Point Vineyards Noordhoek Community Market

Noordhoek

The market with a view! Cape Point Vineyards offers some of the most stunning views in the greater city. Head here on a Thursday evening for a great family afternoon/evening.

There are some great food stalls, fun craft stall and some delicious wine. This market is very child-friendly.

When?

  • Thursdays 4.30pm - 8.30pm(1st November to 31st May)

Noordhoek Community Market

Root 44 Market

Stellenbosch

A little out of town, but if you’re heading up for a day of wine tasting or for a stay in the wine region, be sure to stop off here. Another market with some amazing food stalls and craft shops.

This is probably the largest and most diverse market and is well worth the drive!

When?

  • Saturday 9am - 4pm
  • Sunday 9am - 4pm

Root 44 Market
