Arrival

It's time to relax - your dream holiday has begun!

After a quick change of planes at Dar es Salaam, you’ll make the short hop down to Ruaha National Park.

Day 1 - 5

Ruaha National Park

The Ruaha is a phenomenal area in Southern Tanzania with wonderful diversity. It’s a beautiful park almost twice the size of the Serengeti, but with far fewer visitors. It’s an area where we have had some incredible elephant and lion sightings, in fact it is actually one of the best places in the world to see lions hunting giraffe.

Not only is the Ruaha stunning but it also has a great amount of diversity due to the fact that it’s where the East African biome meets the Southern African biome, which in simple terms means that you are getting a combination of the big open plains of the Serengeti and the high canopy woodlands of countries like Zambia.

Your home for the next four nights will be the delightful Ikuka Safari Camp.

During your stay

You would head out on twice daily game drives with your brilliant safari guide in search of all there is to see.

There is also an option to walk, which can be pre-arranged with us, or organised whilst at the camp.

Day 5 - 8

Nyerere National Park

After your four nights finding your safari feet in the Ruaha, you'll be taken back to the airstrip for a short hop across to the Nyerere National Park for three more nights on safari in this brilliant and very different setting.

The lifeblood of this wilderness is the mighty Rufiji river and network of interconnected lakes. This abundance of water attracts lots of wildlife in the Dry season from June through October. Game drives are most rewarding for predator sightings, but boat and foot safaris add a different dimension to your stay.

The lodge you'll be staying at, Sand River, is idyllically set on the river and has stunning views over the water.

During your stay

Head out onto the river to spot hippo grunting, water monitors scurrying for cover in undergrowth, and crocodiles lurking silently waiting for an easy opportunity. Watch as elephant, waterbuck, and, if you're luck, lions or leopards come down to the river to drink and take shade to get away from the heat of the day.

In the afternoons, head out on game drives or nature walks with the expert guides. Or simply sit back at the lodge on an 'armchair safari' watching the river slowly ebb past.

At night, sleep in a star bed on the sandy banks of the river and fall asleep to the noises of the bush.

Day 8 - 12

Pemba Island

After your incredible 7-nights on safari, it'll be time for some downtime on the beach, and there's nowhere more suited to this itinerary than the awesome Fundu Lagoon on Pemba Island.

Making up part of the greater Zanzibar Archipelago, Pemba Island is slightly further north than Unguja (the official name for Zanzibar), and offers a lovely authentic and laid back alternative to its bigger brother. Flying there from Nyerere is a doddle and you can be watching lions cubs play in the morning and then snorkelling over some mind-blowing coral in the afternoon!

During your stay

Fundu Lagoon is a wonderfully rustic yet luxurious beach lodge on a remote stretch of pristine sand on the west coast of Pemba.

Dive into turquoise waters, paddle with dolphin, learn how to dive, explore the local villages and communities, head out on a sunset dhow cruise, unwind on pristine beaches, indulge in sumptuous cuisine, and embark on thrilling adventures. Bliss awaits!

Departure

As your time in Tanzania comes to an end, it’s time to fly back home.

Don’t worry though, Africa has a way of calling you back, time and time again...
