The Okavango Odyssey

Experience the best of the Okavango Delta

This simple 6-night pure safari itinerary spends time discovering two of our favourite areas of the stunning Okavango Delta. With both water and land based activities, this trip provides the ultimate rounded delta experience.

This itinerary can be extended to include time spent elsewhere in Botswana (such as the Makgadikgadi pans), time on the beach, or time spent exploring Cape Town.

What makes the delta so special to us is the sheer implausibility and uniqueness of the area. It is the world’s largest inland delta system, which should, in reality, be a very dry part of the Kalahari desert, but thanks to ancient tectonic activity is now a lush thriving ecosystem.

Day 1

This itinerary begins with your arrival into Maun, Botswana. Depending on the best flight routing for you, this would either be from a connecting flight via Johannesburg or Cape Town.

Once you arrive into Maun you will be met and helped through to your flight deep into the heart of the Okavango Delta. This flight is up there with the most spectacular of all bush flights! From the plane you can look out at all of the water channels winding their way between small little islands, keep an eye out for herds of elephants as you go.

Days 1 - 4

The lodge you will be staying at is Mapula - a really great water & land camp in the north west of the Delta. Here you will be able to sink your teeth into safari in an area teeming with wildlife by going on game drives as well as mokoro (dugout canoe) and boat excursions.

The camp itself has a lovely rustic charm, and is very comfortable indeed. The camp overlooks one of the main channels of water where you can sit and watch a whole host of wildlife come and go.

DAYS 4 - 7

From Mapula you would then fly across to Khwai Private Reserve, where you would be able to continue your safari experience on game drives.

This area is known for more amazing wildlife sightings, and for the diversity of its habitats from vast open wetlands to beautiful woodlands. In this area there are some amazingly large prides of lions, as well as large packs of wild-dogs (an animal that to safari connoisseurs is particularly exciting).

Your home for these three nights would be the stunning Sable Alley.

As your time in the Okavango Delta comes to an end you will be flown back to Maun where you can either continue your trip elsewhere on the continent (or on one of the surrounding islands!), or return back home.
