From primates to pangolins in the Congo Basin

Starting in Congo's Odzala-Kokoua National Park in central Congo before flying north to CAR and following the Sangha River into the Sangha Tri-National Reserve, this brilliant 11 night itinerary explores two areas of incredible diversity deep in the Congo Basin

These extremely remote areas are some of the most untouched regions on the continent. You'll have the opportunity to track western lowland gorilla, spot black-bellied pangolin and observe an amazing array of other wildlife that frequent the baïs that make this region so unique.

Day 1 - 4

Ngaga Camp

Landing into Brazzaville you'll connect straight onto another short flight into the heart of Congo Basin.

Your home for the next three nights will the stunning treehouse-style Ngaga Camp. You'll spend your mornings tracking western lowland gorilla with the research team. while in the afternoon and after nightfall you will discover the lush forest searching for the abundant wildlife.

Day 4 - 6

Lango Camp

On your fourth day you'll move across to the beautiful Lango Camp, via a traditional pirogue boat excursion on the Lekoli River.

Spend your time in the afternoon at camp admiring the elephants and buffalo come and go from the marshy baï in front of camp, or immerse yourself deeper into the forest on foot under enormous flocks of parrots and green pigeon.

Day 6 - 7

Mboko Camp

Spend your last morning taking in the incredible scenes walking through the baï before you are transferred though the forest to Mboko Camp overlooking a tributary of the Lekoli River.

Situated in an area of lush meadow-like savannah, frequented by forest buffalo, forest elephant and spotted hyaena, Mboko Camp gives a sense of the scale of Odzala while also allowing you to focus on some of the smaller details: flowers and butterflies.

Day 7 - 11

Sangha Lodge

This morning you will make the short flight from Odzala to Kabo Airstrip, about 40 mins north. Here you will begin your journey up the Sangha River into the Central African Republic and towards Sangha Camp.

You'll spend your days with the Ba’Aka tribe, exploring the Dzanga Baï, walking through the Valley of Giants, visiting hidden waterfalls and learning about the conservation projects.

Day 11 - 12

Mboko Camp

As your time at Sangha comes to an end, you will return to Kabo Airstrip for your flight back to Odzala to spend a final night at Mboko Camp sharing stories of your adventure with sundowners on the Lekoli River.

Day 12

Departure

Fly back to Brazzaville for your journey home.
