Days 1 - 3

Arrival

As you land at Kilimanjaro Airport you will be met by one of our team on the ground who will welcome you to Tanzania with a beaming smile and will assist you through the terminal.

A short flight to Lake Manyara Airstrip, your adventure begins by driving up through the jungle that is the exterior of the Ngorongoro Crater all the way up to the ridge itself.

Day 1-3

Ngorongoro Crater

The Ngorongoro Crater is essentially an ancient volcanic crater; before the volcano erupted they estimate that it would have been the highest mountain in Africa. Today, the caldera acts as a completely independent ecosystem and is home to an incredible array of wildlife.

You would be staying at the stunning Entamanu Camp, right on the crater rim.

During your stay

On your first afternoon, you can either go out and explore the local Masai villages (done in a tasteful way), go on an amazing walk or even head down for an afternoon drive in the Crater.

Alternatively, catch your breath after your flights and just relax at the lodge overlooking the Crater itself, with a good pair of binoculars you’d be able to see a huge amount!

The following morning you will get up early and have a delicious breakfast before heading down into the Crater (which itself is quite an adventure). You will then spend all morning down in the Crater and even have a packed picnic lunch, to make the most of your day. In the early afternoon you would then start to make your way up the Crater wall and back to the Lodge.

Day 3 - 5

Serengeti National Park

From the Crater you will drive with your private guide across to the Serengeti National Park, which needs no introduction.

One of the best ways to really experience the Serengeti and safari as a whole is to spend a couple of days at a 'mobile camp' which effectively follows the huge herds of migrating Wildebeest throughout the year as the roam in search of fresh grass.

The mobile camps are simple but with so much charm, it feels very adventurous indeed. You would spend 3 nights in an area close to the centre of all the action in search of huge numbers of big cats as well as the migrating herd.

During your stay

As the camp moves around the Serengeti with the migrating herds, the ecosystems, location and experiences will vary slightly depending on the time of year you travel.

In February, the migrating herds descend on to the short grass plains of the southern Serengeti and Ndutu area to give birth. In an event that is quite extraordinary, 400,000 calves are born in the space of a few weeks.

In July, over a million-strong wildebeest and zebra throw themselves across its crocodile-infested waters of the Mara River, heading for where the grass is greener.

Read our blog on the Great Migration to learn more about this incredible spectacle.

Day 5 - 8

Serengeti National Park

From here you will head to the northern part of the Serengeti with its open savannahs, acacia trees, and rocky outcrops to stay at one of our favourite camps in Africa, Lamai Serengeti.

The lodge is set amongst boulders which look down over the plains and into Kenya’s Masai Mara. Not only is the safari in this area of the Serengeti incredible, but the lodge offers you a chance to relax while you sit by the pool sipping a G&T and overlooking the plains.

During your stay

What is less known about this part of the Serengeti ecosystem are the very healthy concentrations of lion, leopard, and buffalo to be seen all year round. With expert guides and rugged 4x4s, you’ll head out into the plains for big mammal discovery, and fantastic photographic opportunities.

From Lamai, you'll have the opportunity to go out on game drives with your guide, and, when the grasses are shorter, the chance to go out on bush walks to get a completely different perspective on this stunning corner of Tanzania.

Departure

As your incredible safari comes to a close, you will be flown back to Kilimanjaro for your flight home.

Why not extend your stay in Tanzania with a few nights of relaxation on a pristine beach in the Zanzibar Archipelago?
